For about two years I got some pieces of terrain for Warhammer Fantasy laying around wating to get painted. But I didn’t find the right colour shemes.

I wanted that the tower looks like if it is made of old stone. In order to do that I painted the watchtower with Steel Legion Drab and washed it with Nuln Oil. After that I brushed the tower with Codex Grey and finally with Terminatus Stone. I painted the whole tower in this way. The wooden floor was painted with a layer of Rhinox Brown, followed by a mix of Rhinox Brown and Kommando Khaki and pure Kommando Khaki. The base was painted in the same way as the bases of my warhammer 40k terrain pieces (Mounfang Brown, Bleached Bone). The tower ruine was painted exactly the same.

The houses, yes they are just houses… really. The stone elements where painted similar to the towers, but the wall was dry brushed with bleached bone. After that I washed it with Agrax Earthshade. The roof of the first house was drybrushed with Mephiston Red, followed by Squig Orange and finally Kindle Flame and the second one with Regal Blue and Bleached Bone. There were some Metal elements, wich I painted with Shining Gold, followed by a layer of Shining Gold and Mirthil silver. To let it look more aged I added some Hawk Tourquise.

I really like these propaganda posters wich I added to my 40k scenery and I wanted to add something near it. I found some posters and they look really good. 🙂

[WH40K] Painting a Battlefield

[sc:pics]

[sc:pice]

I bought a Realm of Battle board from Games Workshop some weeks ago and it was my largest project ever. It took me some discipline to finish this one. But in the end I made it and I like it 🙂

I played on on such a board some time ago and I realized, that it has a really smooth surface. When you put for example a regiment base on an  oblique surface it could slide downwards. I wanted to prevent this. I searched through the web and found a post on the dakka dakka board, where someone created a chaos wasteland battlefield. I also wanted to add a layer of sand to the field.

I used plenty of glue and water and a large brush, wich I bought in a home improvement store. I realized that the best wy to put some sand on such a large surface is to put a layer with glue and water on it and scatter plenty of sand on the board. When this layer dryed I put an additional layer of water and glue on it to make it more robust. Some small stone were added for some details.

I wanted to paint the board as much as easy enough. The process of painting took just one day. I started with a layer of mounfang brown (bestial brown), wich I drybrushed on the sand. Followed by a layer of screaming skull (bleached bone). This was all. When doing that I tried to avoid painting stripe patterns. In order to do that I moved the brush in a circular way.

[sc:pice]

I painted the rocks and cliffs with a strong layer of dawnstone, followed by highlights with terminatus stone. This simple sheme is really effective.

[sc:pice]

I wanted to embedd the skull pits into the existing painting sheme and didn’t add some more colour. Instead I increased the amount of terminatus stone, wich I dry brushed  over the structure.

[WH40K] Creating some Scenery I

I decided to buy some new scenery for my new battlefield. And what could be better for a 40K Game than an imperial sector and some new quake cannon craters. I also bought a dreadstone blight tower for my fantasy scenery.

[sc:pics]

[sc:pice]

I couldn’t create 4 buildings from the sprues, just three. But I like the result. Probably I’ll add a shrine of the aquilla. I put the buildings on wooden plates. I don’t like scenery without a base, so I also put the street lamps on small bases. The games workshop city fight buildings are really nice. It took just a few minutes to build some really nice contructions. What I don’t like is the dreadstone tower sprue. The parts don’t fit very well. There is no position for the stairs and I had to modify the wooden floor to fit. But the result looks good and the tower will make a good piece of terrain.

[sc:pice]

I also don’t like clean bases and so every base got some sand and stone.

I think I will paint the buildings as much as easy as I could, because I have problems finishing large projects 😉

[WHFB] Goblin Doom Diver

I always loved the idea of these goblins targeting the enemy with a helmet formed like a projectile. I like the the current model, but I also like artillery bases. These machines shouldn’t be placed alone on the battlefield. They need to be embedded into a small scenery. I started with such a wooden base, wich is able to hold the artillery crew. Actually I use these bases for my goblin spearchuckers. I added some snotlings.

The main parts of the doom diver are made of wood. I used scorched brown as the base color. I added some bleached bone for the highlights. I repeated this procedure towards pure bleached bone.

I decided that the slime on doom diver is some kind of troll vomit and painted it accordingly with vomit brown and a bit skull white.

The snotlings were painted in the same way as my other goblins. The crew is still work in progress, but they should be ready soon.

Some days ago I had the oportunity to play against some lizardmen. I managed to take out the other mage with a well aimed shot from my doom diver. Because of this I dominated the magic phase and won the game 🙂

[WHFB] Night Goblins Reinforcements

I recently had some time to finish two heroes and a regiment filler fpr my night goblin army. I also panted a small penguin, wich I bought from a user from gw-fanworld.net. It’s a little joke for a colleague, who finishes his phd today. We always tinker custom hats for that purpose and this little guy will be on his ona. Actually it’s a reference to an electrical penguin, wich he had on his desk for years preventing him from getting our wifi by accident 😉

[WHFB] Night Goblin Regiment II

In order to ease the regiment I modelled some regiment fillers. The first one includes a squig hopper, wich I painted with the same colors as my spider riders.

The next one is a filler with a nightgoblin hit by a dwarven cannonball from the warhammer fantasy 6th edition starter box.

The standard bearer of this regiment has a little snotling, wich pretends he is also a standard bearer. I thought it would be kind of funny, because snotlings imitates their masters.

[WHFB] Night Goblin Regiment

I was working on some night goblins for my fantasy army. It takes a lot of time to paint them in such a detailed way, but I don’t want to do it in a sloppy way.

For the cloak I took chaos black with a bit of regal blue. I highlighted it with a mix of chaos black, regal blue and commando khaki.

The skin is something like an overkill 🙂 I began with orkhide shade, followed by knarloc green and then goblin green. I highlighted the skin with a mix of goblin green, bleached bone and a bit of golden yellow. After that I took another mix with more bleached bone. I repeated that till a pure layer of bleached bone.

One of the eye-catcher of the model is the bad moon icon on the shield. I tried hard to make the shield look as good as possible. I started with a layer of skull white followed by golden yellow and a mix of golden yellow and sunburst yellow. I added a layer of gryphone sepia to produce some shades. After that I highlighted the moon with a mix of golen yellow, sunburst yellow and skull white. I repeated that by adding some more skull white.

[WHFB] Magnetized Spider Riders

When I used my Spider riders in some games I was always annoyed of putting them together. I did not glue them together, because they are easier to transport seperately. Yesterday I startet to modify them by drilling some holes for small magnets. They are very cheap and the modification just took 40 minutes. I really like the result. I’m planning to do the same with a bunch of goblin wolf riders.
